"My skin is brown | And my manner is tough | I'll kill the first mother I see | Cos my life has been too rough | I'm awfully bitter these days | because my parents were slaves | What do they call me | My name is Egypt" ~Nina Simone I was chillin' at work the other day talking with a co-worker about Nina Simone and I started to sing a couple of the words to "Four Women." My co-workers probably think I'm crazy being that I'm always walking around the office talking about some type of music group, act or singer. I just got finished chatting with my homie Bobby about Jagged Edge's "Gotta Be," song. I believe many people slept on that song but for some odd reason everyone is feelin' B2K's version of basically the same song. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the B2K version also ... but Jagged Edge's is my jam. I finished reading "The Queen of Harlem," by Brian Keith Jackson and it was an interesting read. The book is basically about a young man from Louisiana who tries to reinvent himself in Harlem, he learns more about life and about Carmen England, "The Queen of Harlem," then he ever bargained for. I won't give away any more details about the book ... So you'll have to pick it up from Borders, Amazon, or Barnes and Noble. I was over at Courtney's site yesterday trying to help her figure out what video she recently saw Tamala Jones in. My attempts failed (I guess if I had cable I could really help) to help Courtney out ... So if anyone knows the answer ... Help Courtney out! Oh how I love KJLH, the radio station that Stevie Wonder owns ... I got to sleep every night listening to the jams! I got up this morning and download some music. I've been playing Kelly Price's "You Should've Told Me," and "Friend Of Mine," nonstop. I even had the nerves to jam to Raphael Saadiq's "Ask Of You." Alright -- I'm off to read the latest issue of Essence Magazine and listen to this Beyonce Knowles' track a couple more times. Alright -- I'm Gone comments previous | next |
